Our Mission

To increase meaningful interactions for people with communication impairments.

Beginnings

WORDStim is in its infancy, yet it is grounded in established evidence based practices, including semantic feature analysis. Innovated by a speech pathologist to increase verbal behavior and strengths of aphasia patients, WORDStim has become influential in therapy practice of a growing number of clinicians. We are practicing speech pathologists integrating clinical and evidence based practices for function and meaning in the lives of the patients we serve.

Leadership

Ayana Webb, M.A., CCC-SLP

President and Founder

Ayana Webb is a speech-language pathologist. She created and developed WORDStim to increase patients’ progress during aphasia therapy. Having accumulated ten years of clinical practice at the time she developed WORDStim, she noticed that regardless of severity level, patients were often stalled in depressed levels of language after initialtherapy. Focusing on conversation and motivational aspects of language tasks lead many of her patients through some barriers caused by anomia, and other aspects of aphasia.

Ayana has a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Montclair State University (2002).  She was honored for her aptitude in the field of speech pathology by Sertoma’s Communicative Disorders Scholarship. In 2018 she was awarded and recognized for WORDStim by the Association of Women in Sciences of New Jersey.  She has served as a clinical supervisor for students and new graduates in the field of Speech Pathology.  She has also served as an American Speech-Language and Hearing Association mentor.
